Ed Camp LA

Ed Camp LA

Ed camp was a very interesting experience, although I didn’t attend in person I did read many of the different articles and look into many of the things that were talked about via Twitter. I felt that as I grow as a teacher it would be a very fun and educational thing that I should go to sometime because there is so much that people learn in the classroom and so many different perspectives that you can get from others from other schools and so forth.

After reading many of the posts on Twitter, I ran into a post by Mr. Theriault‏@MrTheriaultFVHS and I really could feel myself being there. With the use of words and pictures I could smell the cupcakes as you enter the door and see the boards with posts of what is going on and what people are going to chat about and what classes sounded fun and educational to attend. Reading about Slam! Also sounded like a lot of fun. I feel as though it would take me out of my normal element and get me talking to others because I am not one to go out of my way to meet new people.

I have also read many of the other posts and things that were said about edcamp. I found it really cute how so many people Tweeted about being so happy to go to something that is so educational. It is rare to hear things like that because so many people don’t want to do work type things outside of being at work. I hope that when I am teaching I feel the same way about things.

I also found some really great websites that I can use in the classroom and get more ideas of fun things to do using more technology and creative ways to help students gain more of an interest in learning. I feel as though it was a great experience to sit and read and become a distant part of ed camp. I hope that at some point I will be able to attend one and learn so much more about education and being a teacher.

Personal Growth

My Growth as a Person through Education

When getting my BA I was excited to go on and get my Masters, not strong in the area of Technology, I didn’t know what to expect and so I was quite unsure of what to think. When I entered my first class and was told that I needed to learn how to use an iPad I was scared and didn’t know if I would be able to complete the program at that point.

Now I only have 3 weeks left of the classes that I am currently in at the moment and 1 class left after these are over. My knowledge has grown so much. I am great at using an iPad, Twitter, Blogging, and other devices.

As a professional, I have learned how to speak with others on a more professional level. When I started the program I felt as though I was a little immature and now I have more confidence when it comes to talking to professionals. I have also met other great professionals during this program and have really great connections which will help me get a teaching job when I am able to.

I am so thankful for this experience and I am glad that I stuck with this program and was able to grow. I hope that over time I will be able to take the information that I have learned from taking these classes and will grow more both as a person and a professional.

Twitter Experiences

My Experiences on Twitter

I have spent a lot of time on Twitter during the last 6 weeks. I have read many amazing articles and I have learned much about teaching styles and what things that I can do in order to bring more information to my classroom using resources that I can use from connecting with people. I have also met a lot of really interesting people via Twitter and I know that when I become a teacher, they will be great people to reference.

Some of my downfalls on Twitter is that I am not a teacher yet and although I have been subbing a little I have not really had a lot to post in order to get my name out there in the social networking world. Although I do read a lot of posts, I have a hard time responding because I can’t really experiment on what they are talking about in order to hold a conversation.

I really like Twitter although I am really liking google + due to me learning about more of the features and being able to work with others on papers and being able to say more than just a few words that Twitter allows you.

4 Simple Ways to Increase Engagement In The Classroom

There is a really great article that was posted by Shelly S Terrell @ShellTerrell about the many things that teachers can do to improve their ways of teaching so that students don’t get bored in class thus, giving them a better education.

One thing that I really liked about this post is because it mentions current technology and websites that teachers can use to also help students get involved in the classroom. This is great because we have learned about these different things in class and it is nice to see them in use in the real world.

I also liked that at the end it mentions that teaching is not just about adding technology to the classroom but making lessons that are going to get students involved in learning. This article has a great deal of information that is easy to get to because they are all hyperlinks that can take you directly to the different websites.

I also found it cool because it gave different apps that you can use on your ipad to also help students get more involved in learning. I think this is great because when looking for apps, sometimes it is hard because I am never really sure what to look for when searching the different apps.

I am glad that I found this article, I feel that it has provided me with a lot of information that I might not have gotten otherwise. I really like all the information that I have gotten from Twitter, I feel that it has really opened my eyes to the many different uses of technology. Especially because I would have never created a Twitter account outside of this class.
